How is the environment a reflection of humanity?

Age: Key Stage 3
Overall aim: To explore Catholic teachings on the Environment and consider how this is reflected in students’ lived experience.
Pupils will think about what their local environment shows them about the people who live in the area. They will then consider some aspects from around the world and reflect on what this tells them about humanity as a whole.
Pupils will explore changes that could be made to protect the environment and solve local and global problems.
Pupils consider ways of interpreting Genesis, focusing on humans made in God’s image, and the idea of stewardship.
Pupils will learn about Pope Francis’s encyclical ‘Laudato Si’.
Pupils will consider their own impact on the world around them, both in local and global terms. They will think about the stance they take regarding the environment.
Pupils will find out about action they could take to preserve and protect the environment.
The overall question pupils will engage with through the lessons is: ln what way do we want the world to be a reflection of ourselves?
